Select your headphones to send sound from Chrome directly to your headphones.Ĭhrome has its own sound settings. Scroll down to Chrome, and click on the Output drop-down menu. You should now see the App volume and device preferences. Setting your headphones as the default output device under the Chrome output section worked for many users. Set Your Headphones as the Default Device for Chrome Hit the Reset button to bring the audio settings back to Microsoft’s recommended default settings. Locate Chrome under App volume and device preferences. 
Setting the app volume settings to default may help you to fix the audio issue with your headphones.
Reset the App Volume Preferences for Chrome Right-click on your YouTube tab and select Unmute site. If that’s the case, you should see a slash on the sound icon anyway. For example, if you’re listening to music on YouTube and have tens of tabs open, you may have accidentally muted the YouTube tab.
Refresh the browser and check if your headphones are working now.Ĭheck if you accidentally muted the tab where the sound is coming from. Unmute the volume for Chrome if it’s muted. You should now see a list of volume controls for different programs. Make Sure Chrome Is Not MutedĬheck if there’s a specific sound setting on your computer that mutes Chrome. If this is only a temporary issue, restarting the device should fix it. Unplug your headphones from your computer. NOTE: If you have a dedicated headphone jack and use that connection, it will automatically disable sound from the TV speakers.By the way, setting up my headphones as the default output device for Chrome was the magic solution for me. Check the TV manual/set up guide for an option that allows the TV to operate the speakers, and audio output jacks independently (ie: fixed output) to allow for independent operation of TV speakers and headphones and connect into the audio output of the TV. 
Note: Unless the set-top-box has an independent volume control separate from the TV, you will not be able to control the volume level of the headphones.
If using a set-top-box (cable box, DVR, etc): Look for audio output jacks on the set-top-box, and connect the headphones to the set top box to allow for independent operation of TV speakers and headphones. Below are two common connection methods from devices that support this feature are: Some TV's and set-top-boxes do not offer this feature. The availability of this feature is determined by the device the headphones are connecting to. Having sound emit from BOTH the TV and the headphones at the same time is dependent on how the headphones are connected to the audio source.
